Membership signifies association with a Professional Body which represents the interests of non-destructive testing (NDT) and condition monitoring companies and individuals at national and international level. As a nominated body of the Engineering Council, the Institute can facilitate Professional Engineering registration.

The Institute actively and effectively promotes NDT and associated disciplines, and British industry throughout Europe, through its work with Personnel Certification in NDT (PCN), British Standards Institution (BSI), the European Council for Non-Destructive Testing (ECNDT) and EU policy-forming bodies. The Institute has close European and international links which can be particularly valuable for Associate Members.

The Institute provides a forum for the member companies to discuss matters of mutual interest. This forum is provided by means of membership of the Trade Group, which is open to all Associate Members.

As a token of recognition of status resulting from membership of the national professional body, a Membership Certificate is provided for display on company or organisation premises.

Free membership of Institute Groups covering specific areas of interest allows members to influence the direction of the Institute. Groups include:
  • Aerospace Group
  • Condition Monitoring and Diagnostic Technology (COMADIT)
  • Employer Certification Group (ECG)
  • Industry Group
  • Service Inspection Group (SIG)
  • Trade Group
  • The Air Tightness Testing and Measurement Association (ATTMA)
  • The UK Thermography Association (UKTA)
NOMINEES
Two employees of the Associate Member company may be appointed as nominees. These nominated persons obtain all benefits of individual membership free, including copies of the monthly publications Insight - Non-Destructive Testing and Condition Monitoring and NDT News and reduced rates for attendance at all Institute conferences and symposia.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND STANDARDS
Through its activities in education (Continuing Professional Development (CPD and NVQs)), accreditation and PCN, and its representation on outside bodies such as BSI and the Engineering Council, the Institute is maintaining and raising education and training standards in industry, to ensure the competence of engineers and technicians in this country, Europe and beyond. As a result of representation on the Institute's committees, Associate Members can influence these events, to ensure that the needs of industry are met.

PUBLICATIONS
Membership provides access to Journals which keep individuals up to date with advances in the research, science and practice of NDT, Condition Monitoring and other material testing disciplines, and which in addition provide current news and views from industry. One copy of the NDT Yearbook, used widely as the standard reference book throughout the industry, is sent free to each nominee.

ADVERTISING
Associate Members qualify for:
  • A 10% member discount on all advertising in all Institute publications including INSIGHT, the NDT Yearbook, conference and symposia booklets (if applicable) and the Branch Meetings programme.
  • Free listing in every copy of INSIGHT.
  • Free listing with details of Company products, services and contact details in the NDT Yearbook, a widely consulted and highly regarded reference work used throughout industry. Experience shows that listing in the Yearbook leads to considerable potential business opportunities.
  • Associate Member company news, views and Press Releases are usually given favourable consideration for publication in the Institute's media.
CONFERENCES AND SYMPOSIA
A comprehensive series of conferences and symposia covering a wide range of subjects of interest to Associate Members is arranged each year. Attendance at all Institute conferences and symposia is at reduced Member rate. The Institute's Branches are spread throughout the UK and a welcome awaits anyone who wishes to attend. Many Branch meetings count towards CPD requirements.

EXHIBITION
The Institute's materials testing exhibition, Materials Testing, is the industry's international showcase. This biennial event is the most comprehensive international exhibition in testing for quality, materials testing, mechanical testing, condition monitoring and diagnostic engineering – the premier show for manufacturers, service industries and users of quality testing.
Stand space rates are very competitive, and additional bonuses apply to Associate Members.

Overseas exhibitions
In certain cases, access to DTI funding for overseas exhibitors can be co-ordinated through the Institute.

HELPLINE
The Technical Secretary answers numerous technical enquiries each week. Many are from people and companies requiring NDT equipment or services. In these cases the Technical Secretary directs the enquiry to the appropriate Associate Member, frequently resulting in additional business.

REFERENCE BOOKS
Access to the books and documentation held within the Institute, either of a technical or managerial nature, is of particular benefit to the smaller companies and consultants. Nominees may purchase literature at the reduced Member rate.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
Additional benefits currently include the LawCare Scheme, a legal advisory service which provides access to a team of legal experts offering professionally qualified advice on problems, disputes, claims and worries. Guidance is given on the recommended step-by-step action that should be taken to protect the rights of the individual.

Further benefits to date include access to a low-cost vehicle recovery service, and discounted rates for health care insurance. The list of additional benefits is expanding rapidly. Watch the Institute's publications for announcements concerning the introduction of new schemes.
