A Maintenance Technician is sought to play a key part in ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable operation of a waste-to-energy facility by working as part of the site maintenance team of electromechanical and controls and instrumentation technicians.

The role involves assisting the operations and maintenance teams in delivering all site maintenance functions, including condition-based monitoring, planned and reliability-centred maintenance, breakdown and rectification tasks, lifecycle maintenance and works associated with outage planning and execution, on all elements of the facility, which includes a waste-fired high-pressure boiler, flue gas treatment, steam turbine and generator, ash handling equipment, auxiliary balance of plant equipment, HV apparatus and a distributed control system (DCS), to ensure high plant availability and performance within approved budgets, while keeping safety as the highest priority.

The role is based on a rotating day-shift pattern that includes early and late starts, weekends and public/bank holidays and provides shift-rota cover, including stand-by cover as required, to ensure continuous 24/7 operation of the facility.

Skills and experience:

  • OND/HNC level or above in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical, electrical or other technical disciplines, ideally related to power generation
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in the power generation environment, energy from waste or similar industry
  • IOSH Managing Safely general certificate or similar safety qualification required as a minimum
  • Professional membership with a professional body, such as IMechE or similar
  • In-depth knowledge of steam raising plant and power generation equipment, welding procedures, maintenance and repair issues and knowledge of electrical design and instrumentation and control systems
  • Familiar with PTW, SSOW, RAMS and AP training
  • Experience with computerised monitoring and reporting systems (CMMS)
  • Knowledge and experience of welding, fabrication and repair techniques
  • Understanding of CBM, RCM, NDT, thermographic surveys, VA and oil analysis techniques
  • Mobile plant/IPAF MEWP/FLT licenses and PASMA trained
  • Knowledge, experience and familiarity of working under CDM regulations is desirable
  • IT literate and competent to manage excel-based spreadsheets and produce written reports in Word format.
