A Service/Workshop Manager is required in the Fife region for an established engineering company that is going through a sustained period of growth with lots of work at present within the industrial, engineering and defence sectors.

As part of this role, the successful candidate will be required to manage resources, activities and ongoing projects of the facility to deliver customer satisfaction and commercial performance. The successful applicant will provide a focused sales growth effort of the capabilities of the facilities and local customer base and will be responsible for the planning and coordinating of the operational activities and have line management responsibility for the local Inspection/NDT team.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Managing the continued growth of the facility and surrounding region, in line with agreed targets
  • Managing the profit and loss (P&L) statement by delivering/exceeding agreed budget, gross margins and contribution targets
  • Involvement in key proposals/tender execution, providing written quotations and estimates
  • Managing performance and delivery, in line with key performance indicators for key contracts
  • Reporting business plan activities to the management team as required
  • Competent person in the field of lifting and handling equipment, installation, repair and thorough examination
  • Providing technical advice and knowledge of rigging services and non-destructive testing (NDT)
  • Compiling and verifying inspection/test procedures. Producing written schemes of examinations
  • Notifying clients of defects or problems found during inspection and identifying options for correcting these, using the clients wide nature of technical and engineering capability
  • Maintaining a thorough understanding of legal and regulatory requirements, providing safety information and recommend compliance procedures
  • Contributing to the safety culture implementation and proactively managing safety performance
  • Carrying out competence assessments and updates of service team members in collaboration with the client’s appointed UKAS Technical Authority. Contributing to the personal development, training and competency of the inspection technicians
  • Responsibility for the provision and maintenance of vehicles, tools and services
  • Reviewing and carrying out quality checks on written inspection and test reports.
Key skills/experience:
  • Business management experience and knowledge of P&L in a service provider role
  • Previous experience in lifting and handling equipment and a ‘regulated’ industry
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Experience in coordinating resources and operational activities
  • A thorough knowledge of the technical aspects of the skills and expertise existing in the IMES services offering, including NDT techniques, rigging services and lifting equipment inspection and testing
  • Knowledge of contracts, commercial and finance processes
  • Appreciation and experience of relevant regulations, ie Health & Safety at Work Act, LOLER, PUWER
  • Financial performance/ management awareness
  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent.
