The NDT Section is expanding due to order growth. We are undertaking one of the largest research programmes in the world into new techniques and their applications. Over previous years, we have delivered significant and sustained growth and are seeking a talented individual to enter this fast-moving team environment to underpin and drive our technical excellence and expanding market share.

Contributing to internationally renowned work on established and emerging NDT processes, techniques and procedures, you will enjoy responsibility for and rapidly gain experience in NDT R&D. TWI also established and manages the National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC). NSIRC is the world's first educational establishment offering industry-driven postgraduate degree programmes in structural integrity, set up to address the shortage of structural integrity engineers worldwide.

Success in your application requires:
  • Good knowledge of at least two programming languages (for example C/C++, Java, C# or Python)
  • Experience in digital signal processing
  • Good understanding of micro-computer architecture
  • Good knowledge of computer networks and their protocols
  • Experience with embedded device programming
  • Willingness to learn other programming languages as required by the projects and adapt software industry best-practices into all codes
  • Ability to capture requirements from key stakeholders and communicate project progress
  • Ability to follow industry best practices ('de-coupling of code', etc, as above)
  • Supervision of NSIRC students (PhD and/or MSc)
  • Ability to oversee and deliver technician support and advise and guide NSIRC PhD students on laboratory equipment.

Ideally you will have experience with the following:
  • Development environments such as MATLAB and/or LabVIEW
  • Working with computer vision image/video acquisition/encoding/streaming processing
  • Circuit design and lay-out planning
  • Developing mobile apps (in any platform)
  • Extensive experience using Unix/Linux OS.

Applicants must also possess good team and networking abilities, demonstrating initiative and self-motivation, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills.

We are looking for someone with a flexible approach to working patterns and locations due to project activities taking place both in the UK and abroad.
