A worldwide manufacturing and engineering company has a vacancy for a Trainee NDT Inspector to join its team in West Lothian. 

The role has been created due to an increase in orders and a very healthy future pipeline of work. As a result, this role presents an excellent opportunity that offers stability, career progression and the chance to work in an exciting sector. A personal career development plan will be in place from the start for the successful candidate, who will work towards non-destructive testing certification paid for by the employer. 

Normal working hours are Monday to Friday over a three-shift rotating system (6.00 am to 2.00 pm, 2.00 pm to 10.00 pm and 10.00 pm to 6.00 am). A year one salary of £35,615 (comprising £28,606 basic and £7008 shift allowance) is offered. There will also be overtime opportunities at enhanced rates. Holidays start at 33 days per year (including statutory holiday) rising to 35 days after five years of service. The company offer a stakeholder pension scheme, matching up to 10%, and a discretionary bonus paid quarterly if business targets are achieved. 

The successful Trainee NDT Inspector will work towards gaining certification (training funded by the company) and will be involved in the following tasks and duties:
  • Ultrasonically evaluate shafts, valve bodies, hemispheres and maintenance components, report findings and file reports
  • Identify, prepare, etch, view, evaluate, report and file metallurgical samples to specific customer standards
  • Identify magnetic particle inspection of shafts, stub shafts and discs and MPI of welds on dies
  • Visually inspect macro etched forgings to customer standards
  • Other duties as required.
The role will suit a recent graduate with a materials or metallurgy background looking for a long-term career opportunity or candidates with experience of working in a manufacturing materials testing environment who are looking to take the next step in their career. 
To be considered for this Trainee NDT Inspection role, candidates must have the following skills and experience:
  • Knowledge and understanding of forging procedures, effects of heat treatment and principles of ultrasonic/magnetic particle inspection
  • Knowledge of customer specifications
  • A good educational background (metallurgy or materials degree) or experience of working within a similar materials testing manufacturing environment
  • A basic knowledge of metallurgy.
