Rolls-Royce Submarines plc forms part of the nuclear sector of Rolls-Royce plc. Its inspection teams specialise in the development and implementation of manual, semi-automated and fully automated NDE capabilities for application on nuclear steam raising plant components. Many of these capabilities support nuclear safety cases and are therefore subjected to the rigours of inspection qualification via the company's type 2 ENIQ qualification body.
Particular areas of expertise include: preparation of inspection documentation (including technical justification in support of inspection procedures); conventional and phased array ultrasonic examination of components manufactured with complex geometry and 'difficult' materials; eddy current inspection of heat exchanger tubing, austenitic cladding and surface coatings; X- and gamma radiography; remote visual inspection; and high-definition replication of surfaces.
