The British Institute of NDT is looking to recruit an experienced Certification and Technical Engineer to maintain and develop the PCN Scheme and its documentation (NDT, CM and inspection programmes). As such, the role is key to the management and continuous improvement of schemes. The role-holder will provide deep and broad technical support to staff, trustees, committees and other stakeholders associated with BINDT’s certification services and assist in certification international standards development. Knowledge and experience of Engineering Council registration and the NDT apprenticeship schemes would be an advantage. 

The Certification and Technical Engineer will report to the Senior Technical Engineer. On a day-to-day basis, they will work closely with other members of staff, including senior managers, leaders and officers. This is a diverse, challenging and very rewarding role, with scope for taking on additional responsibilities. Continual professional development is actively supported by the Institute. 

Person specification:

Essential criteria: 

  • NDT certification (minimum Level 2 in at least three methods and aiming to be Level 3 in more than one method).
  • Demonstrable qualities of discretion, integrity and the ability to work effectively in teams and with other individuals at all levels of seniority.
  • Knowledge/awareness of ISO 9712, ISO 17024 and ISO 17021 and all other relevant standards.
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office: Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • A high degree of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines and standard accepted practices.
  • The ability to travel nationally and possibly internationally on occasion (ie representing BINDT at conferences and exhibitions, standards meetings, committee meetings, etc).
  • Excellent team-working skills.
  • Confident meeting BINDT stakeholders.
  • Experience and confidence organising and hosting meetings.
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management. 
  • Maintain a continuing professional development plan.
  • The ability to grasp complex and advanced processes quickly and efficiently.
  • Quickly adapt to new employment guidelines and procedures.

Desirable:

  • A degree qualification in NDT.
  • Knowledge of NDT advanced techniques.
  • Knowledge of condition monitoring methods.
  • ISO 9001 lead auditor certified.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Collaboration skills.n Critical-thinking skills.
  • Experience in writing articles for technical publications.

Contract: Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week, five days per week). BINDT adopts a flexible working approach, to be agreed in accordance with business needs. 

Salary: Negotiable.

Holiday: 25 days per annum, plus English public holidays.
