This position can offer a Heat Treatment Operator the chance to join an internationally recognised engineering organisation on a permanent basis.

Job summary:
Heat treatment operators are responsible for the machines and furnaces that apply heat treatments to components and make them ready for use in products. The components produced are used in the construction of a range of items including cars, aircraft, trains, oil rigs and specialised items for the armed forces.

Key responsibilities of the Heat Treatment Operator:

  • Work to written instructions, procedures and quality standards.
  • Furnace operation to ensure high process standards are achieved
  • Prepare components for processing, make up and breakdown
  • Monitor and report on all aspects affecting the processing of products
  • Support the planning work
  • Be prepared to train on the quality aspects of the site
  • Goods in/out responsibilities.

Heat Treatment Operators use and oversee a range of equipment, including: sealed quench furnaces, pit carburising furnaces, tempering furnaces, induction hardening, die quenching, straightening, phosphate coating, overhead crane and FLT.

Knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge of relevant manufacturing-related quality procedures
  • Experienced in all heat treatment processes (ideally)
  • Experienced in various material testing processes, for example Vickers, HRC, Brinell
  • Able to identify and resolve problems
  • Assist in the Heat Treat Department with continuous improvement initiatives
  • Use of computer-controlled equipment
  • Set times and temperatures, making adjustments where necessary
  • Use forklift trucks to load the components ready for the furnaces
  • Unload the furnaces and deal safely with any waste products
  • Blast components with a stream of shot to clean them
  • Cool (quench) components oil
  • Support the NDT Team as and when required
  • Complete NDT activities such as MPI, UT and hardness checks (training will be provided if required)
  • Ensure the machinery is in good repair, performing basic maintenance and calling for technical help if a problem arises.

Additional £250 paid for a weekend call-out (one weekend per month).

Security clearance will be required for all candidates.

The successful Heat Treatment Operator will need to be located no more than 15 miles from site.
