A large engineering business based in Runcorn is now looking to recruit a home-based Visual Inspection Engineer who will be specialising in Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR). This position will be based across the North West (Manchester) and will be on the customer site conducting visual inspections.

This location may change so candidates who apply will need to be flexible on location as UK travel will be required. This will be a permanent days-based position and will come with a company car.

The Inspection Engineer (PSSR) will be responsible for the inspection of pressurised equipment, tanks and piping to meet regulatory and client requirements in the process automation/energy industries in the UK. The Inspection Engineer will report to the Head of Department/Team Leader of a local team of inspection staff. This role has the potential to become a Team Leader.

The successful candidate will be working with manufacturing clients in chemical, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, power, upstream/downstream oil & gas industries and duties will include:

  • Preparing and reviewing Written Schemes of Examination (WSE)
  • Examination and reporting in accordance with the WSE
  • Undertaking simple NDT, such as ultrasonic thickness checks and magnetic particle and dye penetrant testing
  • Coordination of NDT providers for extensive requirements or specialist methods
  • Coordinating repairs
  • Participation in risk-based inspection studies
  • Maintaining and enhancing customer satisfaction by providing excellent service.


To apply for the Inspection Engineer (PSSR) position, five years’ experience is required in an engineering/manufacturing environment within an inspection or service inspection position, along with the following:

  • A mechanical background
  • UKAS qualification Category 2 – Incorporated Engineer and/or HNC Engineering
  • Incorporated Engineer status desirable
  • Ideally based in the North West of England
  • A strong focus on safe work practices and dedication to following workplace safety guidelines
  • A current driving licence (essential).
