Hycrome was originally established in 1947, when it mainly serviced the textile industry. Throughout the decades, the company evolved into an organisation that provided services to the aerospace, power generation and oil & gas industry sectors.

In 2016, the business was split, with Hycrome Aerospace being formed to handle all aerospace-related activity. Hycrome Europe continues to service the power generation and oil & gas industries.

Specialist activities in both companies include engineering and design, advanced manufacturing, application of protective treatments and component repair.

An opportunity has arisen within the company’s materials laboratory, which undertakes a variety of testing, including: 

  • Sample preparation 
  • Inspection of metallurgical samples (to customer specifications) 
  • Producing lab reports
  • Tensile testing of thermally sprayed coatings
  • Hardness testing (micro and macro hardness)
  • Pyrometry testing (system accuracy testing (SAT))
  • Reviewing customer specifications
  • Producing work instructions
  • Management of non-dimensional calibration (including pyrometry)
  • Management of training (of special process and lab personnel)
  • Performing internal special process audits
  • Writing work instructions and data cards
  • Performing pyrometry calibration and temperature uniformity surveys (TUSs) (external pyrometry supplier liaison)
  • Pyrometry calibration and TUS review of certification IAW AMS 2750
  • Calibration – non-dimensional (supplier liaison and review of certification)
  • Liaising with external Level 3 facilitators
  • Laboratory maintenance (routine and non-routine)
  • Producing routine and non-routine laboratory reports
  • Calibration of laboratory equipment.
Skills and experience required:
Previous experience in metallurgical assessment is required, along with experience in at least one of the following Nadcap special processes:
  • Heat treatment
  • Non-destructive testing
  • Thermally sprayed coatings (including metallurgical analysis)
  • Surface enhancement (shot peening).
Previous experience of conducting internal audits is also required.

Working hours:

Monday to Thursday: 8.00 am-4.30 pm; Fridays: 8.00 am-12.15 pm.
