A leading nuclear/defence company is currently seeking several NDE Development Engineers.

Key accountabilities:

  • Hold responsibility for the design, development, justification and application of high-integrity inspection techniques
  • Be involved in the testing of high-integrity components through all stages of life, working across a range of areas
  • Operate as part of a close-knit team and develop and implement new methods of NDE, using bespoke remotely operated machines
  • Demonstrate compliance with relevant company, national and international standards to a level beyond reproach.

Qualifications and experience:

  • The company is looking to recruit at all levels and the ideal candidate will have experience in developing and justifying inspection techniques in accordance with ENIQ methodology. Ideally, this experience will have been gained in a relevant industry, such as heavily regulated operations or products and services
  • Candidates will ideally possess a degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. Professional qualifications in NDT are highly beneficial (PCN, SNT, ASNT, MIPS and GUIDE), with the ideal candidate holding qualifications in ultrasonic testing (UT) and eddy current testing (ET) 
  • The majority of inspections use remotely operated automated equipment, so experience in the operation of automated ultrasonic and ET systems is beneficial
  • A demonstrable ability to work in a highly technical environment in multi-disciplinary teams and to tight deadlines is required
  • Less experienced candidates with strong academic qualifications are also encouraged to apply. 

Travel away from home to support field deployments is required, normally for no more than two weeks at a time and for typically less than 25% of the yearly requirement. These deployments will typically involve 12-hour shift working on a 24-hour, seven-days-per-week basis, including statutory holidays when required.

Appropriate documentation and health prerequisites for UK travel are required and must be maintained by the individual. A valid driving licence will also be required to enable travel between sites.

The role may involve being exposed to difficult working conditions, so applicants are required to be physically capable of moving in and around the products and will be required to meet the relevant job-specific health & safety certification 
requirements, including classified radiation worker.
