AWE, a centre of scientific, engineering and technological excellence, with some of the most advanced research, design and production facilities in the world, is currently recruiting for an experienced radiographer within its non-destructive testing (NDT) group under quality engineering. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise and guidance in radiographic inspection and development of new processes.

  • Develop and validate processes utilising digital and computed tomography X-ray equipment in accordance with statutory regulation and company procedures to support current programmes
  • Deliver radiographic technical assessments to support product design requirements using appropriate methodologies
  • Ensure production targets are met by supporting radiographic inspection, where required, for product certification
  • Create and implement new strategies to inspect for defects in future products by developing new methodologies, including design for inspection principles
  • Represent quality support design/technical/task/defect reviews and stakeholder meetings as required to ensure quality is represented
  • Represent quality (radiography) by engagement in a site-wide capability development programme
  • Maintain and develop specialist knowledge through continuous professional development (CPD), technical press, suppliers and communities of practice (COP)
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders across AWE, the UK and international partners.
Individuals with some experience in the development of radiographic processes are of particular interest, as are those who carry out a radiography inspection service and who are looking to technically develop their career.

Required knowledge and experience:
  • Working knowledge of the Ionising Radiation Regulations
  • Awareness of modern radiography technology: direct radiography, computed radiography and computed tomography
  • Basic quality tools and world-class manufacturing
  • Problem resolution and continuous improvement tools and techniques
  • Developing and applying radiographic inspection techniques to confirm design requirements
  • Radiographic inspection practices, interpretation of resulting imagery in accordance with detailed requirements, the safe use of X-ray equipment and the setting up of components/assemblies.
