Serco is currently hiring for an NDT Technical Manager. The NDT Technical Manager will provide PCN Level 3 and consultancy-level technical leadership and support to NDT team members, customers and approval bodies. This role will involve working with the Chief Examiner/NDT Consultant to achieve this requirement.

Key accountabilities:
  • Managing the NDT training school staffing and service delivery with the Chief Examiner and the Training Administrator
  • Carrying out training of students and undertaking/supporting service work as required
  • Organising staff, such that the service offered to customers is the best that can be achieved with the resources available
  • Supporting/assisting in the delivery of the annual PDR process (staff appraisals)
  • Identifying, recommending, justifying and implementing opportunities for business growth to the NDT Production and Training Services Manager to enable the opportunities to be evaluated effectively
  • Implementing quality processes within the NDT team to ensure best practice and continuous business improvement. This can include initiatives to improve other parts of the rail business
  • Ensuring that the systems that are in place are maintained and fully documented and having an understanding and working knowledge of the standards applicable to NDT
  • Representing Serco on committees and working groups as required
  • Ensuring that purchase orders and technical reports are managed for all tasks.

Safety responsibilities:
  • Day-to-day responsiblity for the maintenance of health, safety, welfare and security of all NDT staff, customers, contractors and others who may be affected by their activities
  • Implement Serco procedures/policies
  • Assist in ensuring that facilities, plant and equipment relating to the NDT service are inspected and maintained. Any corrective actions raised need to be closed out in a reasonable timescale.

Essential qualifications:
  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification in NDT-associated subject
  • PCN Level 2 or 3 in those disciplines that instruction is given to achieve PCN certification
  • Eye test (to meet PCN requirement).

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and experience:
  • Member of BINDT
  • PTS (requirement will be reviewed annually)
  • EDU Safety Induction Course as appropriate
  • Ten years’ experience of railway and engineering practice and five years’ NDT practice is essential.
