A market-leading marine and fabrication engineering company requires an experienced Quality Engineer – Fabrication to join its team.

Job summary:
The main duties of the Quality Engineer will be to assist the business in the control of the quality of manufacture, undertaking audits where applicable during production and recommending improvements while supporting the Operations Manager/General Manager. The successful candidate will promote a positive cultural and behavioural change in all aspects of quality manufacturing within the project and labour force teams.

The Quality Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Providing guidance, direction and support to staff on all aspects of quality with regards to manufacturing
  • Reviewing customer welding and other technical documentation to ensure the availability of welding documentation to support project deliverables
  • Identifying key risks and making recommendations for control measures
  • Facilitating arrangements for client and third-party audits where required in association with the QHSE Advisor
  • Undertaking checks of the welding processes being used to monitor compliance with the arrangements agreed and taking action to address issues as identified
  • Carrying out regular inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented
  • Applying working knowledge of key quality control practices, best practices and industry knowledge when advising and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Actively encouraging all employees to participate in continuous improvement activities
  • Reporting on quality statistics such as defects and non-conformances to the General Manager/Operations Manager as well as the QHSE Advisor
  • Promoting adherence to the Group’s quality assurance policies as applicable to the role
  • Carrying out daily checks on the progress of projects and continuously being aware of and in control of all activities relating to the role, namely: weld procedures; weld maps; weld plans; material traceability; NDT process and procedures; inspection and release; quality pack documentation; and ITP development and management
  • Notifying and logging non-compliances and managing their actions for resolution, etc
  • Tracking and monitoring welder qualifications and procedures, ensuring welding on projects is being carried out by a suitably qualified person and that all plant and equipment in use is calibrated for use
  • Ensuring that they and those in their team and labour workforce are operating to the business ISO certification (9001, 14001 and 45001) standards, where applicable to the role
  • Reporting on a monthly basis to the QHSE Advisor and General Manager/Operations Manager.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Knowledge of relevant standards and procedures
  • Proven track record in managing and maintaining ISO 3834/ISO 1090
  • Have worked for a minimum of three years in a similar project-type industry
  • Knowledge of quality management systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Good interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisation skills
  • Holds a CSWIP 3.1 qualification in visual weld inspection.
