Intertek is currently recruiting a Business Development Manager (BDM) on a full-time, permanent basis. The role will be based out of the company's offices in Derby, UK. There will be travel throughout the UK and occasionally to Europe. The role is for the development of NDT-site and laboratory, materials testing, mechanical testing and welding quality services. The industries the BDM will operate in are: aerospace, rail, transport, oil & gas, power generation, both nuclear and conventional, submarine, foundries, fabrication and construction.

The applicant should have a proven track record in delivering sales across a diverse customer base. The BDM’s role is to identify areas for growth – whether in new markets or in current markets and with existing customers. The applicant will develop and execute a sales strategy in line with the annual Business Plan. The BDM will also monitor and nurture the top 50 customers with regular visits.

The applicant should have a background in non-destructive testing. Experience in welding processes or materials testing would be a bonus.

Essential experience:
  • A sound knowledge of NDT methods and qualifications

  • An understanding of the industries served by NDT and materials testing and welding quality services

  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, Word, Excel, CRMs, Power point

Responsibilities:
  • A commitment to learn and fully utilise sales software
  • Develop an annual business plan in conjunction with the General Manager
  • Monitor customer activity and spend
  • 
Meeting/exceeding sales targets based on revenue and profit margin

  • Manage a full diary – including meetings/sales activity (visits/calls/emails) and meeting monthly targets
  • 
Provide professional, technical quotations and tenders in conjunction with General Manager and Laboratory Managers
  • 
Provide detailed and comprehensive reporting of all sales visits

  • Participate in a global sales activities – working in collaboration with overseas colleagues when invited to do so

  • Exploring opportunities for a ‘wider’ sales approach involving other Intertek laboratories

  • Good awareness of contract law and best practice

  • Maintain accurate records of all sales and prospecting using global software
