Job details:
SST Technology specialises in the design and manufacture of bespoke, advanced precision fabrications and thermal management systems for high-tech industries. An opportunity has arisen within the company’s dynamic environment for a Quality Engineer, who will be responsible for the development and implementation of quality and production control processes to support the introduction of production programmes into the business. A positive and proactive approach is critical, as is the ability to work to customer-driven requirements under tight timescales. The company is looking for a candidate with good experience in the quality engineering field and a desire to step up to the next level in the future.

Key responsibilities:
  • To ensure that all of the products leaving the business are fully conforming, fit for purpose and meet the minimum quality standard as set by SST Technology and its customers
  • To support the definition and introduction of a new APQP product introduction gateway process in line with the requirements of customers
  • To develop quality processes in a dynamic environment, ensuring that they are robust and meet customer and regulatory requirements
  • To work with the company’s teams to be the prime quality engineering contact within projects, supporting the development of production cells to ensure that all quality aspects are conforming and built into process failure mode effects analysis (PFMEA), through control plans and into process
  • To be able to demonstrate that parts meet customer or regulatory requirements by utilising first article inspection reports (FAIRs), initial sample inspection reports (ISIRs) and production part approval process (PPAP) documentation
  • Manage non-conformances for products found during internal manufacture and customer/supplier returns by using the appropriate root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action preventative action (CAPA) tools and liaising with customers and suppliers where necessary
  • Support the development of general document control strategy and procedures within the business and build the processes defined above into a data management system
  • Support the management of internal and external audits and assist the Quality Manager in maintaining the company’s quality manual in line with ISO 9001/ISO 14001 requirements and future accreditations.
Person specification:
  • Enthusiastic and flexible in performing a wide range of tasks within and sometimes outside of their standard job description
  • Clear and open two-way communication skills with an approachable, positive and proactive attitude
  • Methodical approach to problem solving, with excellent attention to detail
  • Familiar with all geometric tolerancing and adept at reading and understanding engineering drawings and specifications
  • Experienced in writing clear and concise technical documents, including failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), process flows, control plans, FAIRs, production part approval process (PPAP), quality alert documents and 8Ds
  • Experience and knowledge of 
  • ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 is desirable, with previous AS 9100 or TS 16949 experience a plus
  • An engineering/technical background and qualification is highly desirable and a knowledge of materials science would be advantageous
  • Experience of CMM programming, including Faro or Romer Arm programming and operation would be desirable, as well as NDT techniques
  • PC literate and able to use or quickly learn packages such as SolidWorks and SAP Business One.
