Why should a small business engage with the NDT apprenticeship schemes?

The British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) is currently working towards developing two apprenticeship schemes for non-destructive testing (NDT) under the government’s new Phase 3 Trailblazer Apprenticeships programme, which will give employers across the NDT industry and beyond an exciting opportunity to shape the future of training and employment in the NDT industry.Roger Lyon, Apprenticeship Development Project Manager for the British Institute of NDT, is encouraging small businesses to take the opportunity to engage with the programme for a number of reasons:
- This is an opportunity to develop the next generation of skills for your business.
- Written by employers for employers, the new apprenticeship standards are easier to understand and access than before. They are much shorter and simpler so there is less paperwork for you.
- Collaborating with other employers across your sector can have other benefits too.
- You can have your say in defining the skills, knowledge and behaviours that you want for key occupations in your sector.
- Trailblazers are groups of large and small employers working together to design the standards and assessments for apprenticeships. Over 1000 employers are already involved.
- Getting involved means that apprenticeships can directly support your business to grow and prosper.
- Trailblazers must consult with small businesses in their sector and are open to new ways of doing this.
