Award criteria


Purpose: Awarded to the NDT Operator apprentice achieving an excellent result at their end-point assessment in the year in question.

Details of the award: A certificate, £100 cash and an invitation to the NDT/CM Annual Conference Dinner with one night’s accommodation.

Eligibility: A BINDT apprentice who has achieved an excellent result at their end-point assessment in the year in question.

Nomination arrangements: The winner will be selected using the EPA scoring system.

2022/2023 winner: Ben Andrew

The NDT Operator of the Year Award for 2022/2023 has been won by Ben Andrew.

Ben Andrew is Dakota NDT’s primary Technical Support Engineer and acts as a key contact for any issues related to ultrasonic testing (UT) equipment from the company’s global sales network.

Ben joined the company in 2021 and has a strong educational background in physics, maths and programming. Within UT as a discipline, Ben completed his PCN Level 2 UT weld inspection examinations with a distinction grade through Lavender International in 2023. His areas of interest are bolt tension measurement and finding novel applications for ultrasonic A-scan equipment.

Outside of technical support, Ben also writes instructional articles and guides for publication and has had some of these articles published by trade magazines such as Surface World and ASNT Pulse.

On a personal front, Ben is a keen musician and multi-instrumentalist and played drums in a band for a few years prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, performing live shows around the UK and recording two EPs.
