A free webinar on the role of computed tomography (CT) in accelerating the development and qualification of additive manufacturing (AM) processes and products is to be hosted on Thursday 14 May 2020 at 4.00 pm BST.Aerospace Testing International and North Star Imaging (NSI) will be hosting the event and the presenters will be Brett Muehlhauser, a Research and Development Technical Fellow at NSI, and Ben Sampson, Editor at Aerospace Testing International.
CT is currently being employed in applications ranging from new process development through to final inspection of AM products. Extensive studies have been performed using CT to help detect, classify and better understand the types and sizes of discontinuities found within various AM processes. Critical product applications not only demand confidence in the internal integrity of the product, but also in the internal and external metrology data. CT is a technology that can provide both for many applications.
AM products and sample coupons are commonly evaluated for material properties, such as tensile strength, compression, torsion and fatigue. CT is being used to validate the correlation between the sample coupons and the product, as well as to assist in the qualification of in-situ monitoring methods. This presentation will include examples of where CT is being applied in both metal and polymer additive manufacturing.
