A Storage Tank Inspector is sought  for the UK and possible overseas deployment. The company is a leading provider of technical services worldwide. It provides a broad range of testing, inspection and certification services to ensure the safety, reliability and regulatory compliance of engineering assets throughout their lifecycle. The company is seeking experienced inspectors to join its growing industrial team to provide inspection and assessment of above-ground flat-bottomed storage tanks to industry-recognised guidelines EEMUA 159 and/or API 653.

Job description:

  • Developing of inspection plans/schemes of examination for storage tank inspection to industry-recognised guidelines EEMUA 159 and/or API 653
  • Identifying plant preparation requirements for inspection
  • Examining storage tanks as per inspection plans/schemes
  • Undertaking and/or overseeing necessary non-destructive testing (NDT) for inspections
  • Coordinating third-party NDT providers for extensive requirements or specialist techniques
  • Assessing and grading defects identified during inspection and helping to determine remedial actions/recommendations
  • Assisting in the specification and coordination of repairs
  • Carrying out fitness-for-service calculations and assessment as per the inspection standard, for example EEMUA 159
  • Preparing and issuing of inspection reports and certificates, including all necessary supporting documents, for example photographs, NDT reports, assessment calculations, etc
  • Liaising with client contacts regarding inspection planning and execution
  • Working strictly to recognised safe systems of work, for example PTW, RAMS, CSE, etc.

Education/certificates:

  • Engineering technical qualification, for example Higher National Certificate (HNC), NVQ Level 4, BTEC or a degree
  • Certified EEMUA 159 tank assessor or inspector (API 653 may be considered)
  • NDT certified for ultrasonic testing (UT) and surface flaw detection (penetrant testing (PT) or magnetic particle testing (MT)) are preferred, for example PCN or American Society for Nondestructive Testing 
    (ASNT).

Experience and skills:

  • Mechanical engineering background
  • Understanding of engineering principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and an eye for detail
  • Ability to accurately follow procedures
  • Courage to make (and defend) difficult decisions
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently
  • Ambition to learn and progress
  • Willingness to travel and work on client sites in the UK and potentially overseas
  • Understanding of fabrication processes and NDT is desirable
  • Experience of chemical and/or the oil & gas industry is desirable.
