Description:

L2 Business Consulting Limited was established in 2009 as a UK-based independent technical consultancy providing radiological protection advice to the nuclear, oil & gas and other high-hazard industries. L2 provides its clients with advice on compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) by appointment as Radiation Protection Advisers (RPAs) and is recognised by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) as an RPA body.

L2 has significant experience in the provision of RPA advice to the NDT sector, including:

  • Support to employers on notification, registration and consent under IRR1, including the new safety assessments via RADAN portal
  • Development of radiation risk assessments, local rules and contingency plans
  • Delivery of training, including radiation protection supervisor (RPS), RPS refresher, radiation awareness, emergency response/source recovery and RAM transport
  • Advice on the selection and design of control measures for shielded radiography enclosures, including shielding design and installed safety systems
  • Advice on designation of controlled and supervised areas
  • Development of radioactive substances activity (RSA) environmental permit application and subsequent compliance arrangements in England, Wales and Scotland
  • Advice on the types and selection of personal dosimetry
  • Advice on selection and use of radiation monitoring equipment
  • Undertaking leak testing of sealed sources, counting and provision of associated certification
  • Dose assessments and ALARP justifications
  • Regulatory engagement and liaison
  • Critical examinations of facilities, including engineering controls, design features, safety features and warning devices
  • Advice on security arrangements relating to high-activity sealed radioactive sources, including security plans
  • Undertaking routine inspections and compliance audits
  • Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) for transport of Class 7 radioactive materials.
