RWE Generation UK plc owns and operates gas-fired and biomass power stations in the UK, along with a growing renewable energy portfolio.
Inspection Management is a group within RWE Generation UK plc responsible for the contract management, surveillance and audit of NDT activities across the fleet of power stations. In addition, it specialises in the development and implementation of manual and automated NDE techniques for the power industry, often associated with turbo machinery. The group has over 40 years’ experience of inspecting power plant components and has staff experienced and certificated to PCN Level 3 standards in major NDT methods, who are able to provide support and advice on all NDT-related matters.
Effective NDT contract management ensures that the NDT content of plant overhauls consistently meets the specific requirements of statutory legislation and those of the customer. Audit and surveillance of NDT contracts can be tailored to suit customer requirements, thereby providing validated assurance that inspection activities fulfil the anticipated design criteria.
The NDT and inspection content of new-build projects can benefit from the input of tender and specification documentation review and advice, along with the undertaking of vendor assessments at manufacturers' and suppliers' works, providing reassurance of the required quality being achieved. Supported by in-house engineering plant specialists, the significance of inspection findings can be analysed to provide advice on future plant operation.
With its in-house development team, Inspection Management is able to provide inspection solutions within demanding timescales to meet customer expectations. It has developed a number of specialised NDT inspection applications based on the latest NDE technologies, including:
- Phased array inspection in lieu of radiography for small bore butt welds.
- Generator retaining-ring in-situ inspection.
- Rotor blade roots and fixings in-situ inspection.
