Description:

Innerspec Technologies (IT) is a world leader in the development of high-power ultrasonic instrumentation for both portable and factory-based NDT applications of electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs). Its EMAT systems are equally applicable to the application of short-range UT (SRUT) using bulk waves and both medium-range and long-range UT using guided waves. All of these are applicable to applications required for inspections at very high or low temperatures, without couplant or on poor surfaces.

SRUT typically uses EMAT normal beam sensors designed to generate shear or longitudinal waves at zero degrees for either thickness measurement or flaw detection. The company also utilises zero degree sensors for stress measurement and bolt load measurement.

Guided waves are typically used for corrosion detection and sizing using medium-range (MRUT) and long-range ultrasonic testing (LRUT). LRUT works at frequencies around 50 kHz and permits inspection of long distances (50-100 m) from a sensor. MRUT is a complementary technique that covers shorter distances (0.1-3 m) but with greater detection sensitivity and resolution. MRUT is used most frequently for the detection and measurement of corrosion under pipe supports and buried corrosion (for example lamp posts).

The company also manufactures integrated systems designed to provide automated and semi-automated NDT inspections in factory environments. These systems can incorporate unique sensors, instrumentation, software, as well as customised mechanical devices to integrate the inspection system with other equipment and processes. Its systems include at least one of its basic NDT techniques (EMAT, UT, EC, LM), which can be used by themselves or combined with others to provide a complete inspection solution customised for each customer’s needs.
