Elios 2 approved as formal inspection tool

22/04/2020

Elios 2, an intuitive, reliable and precise indoor inspection drone, has been formally approved as an authorised tool for inspection, the first of its kind to be permitted for industry-recognised use.

Thoroughly examined by Terra Inspectioneering (formerly known as RoNik Inspectioneering) and the American Petroleum Institute (API) in a series of vigorous tests, Elios 2 has been found to be the single best drone for indoor inspections currently on the market, the company claims, providing safe operations in a variety of both open and confined locations and acquiring data that would otherwise be unreachable.

Elios 2 has been specifically designed to handle the tasks that traditional drones would find impossible, saving money and time, improving data capture and accuracy and reducing risk for human resources. Specialised features include oblique lighting, which allows for three-dimensionality, distance lock for accurate depth perception measurements and stabilisation for meticulous precision.

The design also benefits from easily detachable modular features, which makes swapping out batteries a quick and easy process, also ensuring that any maintenance, running of repairs or even the replacement of parts is a more efficient and reliable process.

Steven Verver, RoNik Inspectioneering Founder, said: “Currently no other drone exists that has been approved as a formal inspection tool and it is unlikely that any will be in the foreseeable future.”

The UK official supplier of Elios 2, COPTRZ – Commercial Drone Experts, has backed the capabilities of the drone since its release in May 2019, working with a number of high-profile clients, such as Magnox Ltd and Thames Water, to initiate its use in a number of hazardous locations and dangerous situations. Severn Trent has subsequently reported savings of over £750,000 since instigating the use of the Elios in its practices, while Liverpool Arena used the drone to omit risk for dozens of firefighters when a severe fire broke out at the Liverpool Echo Arena car park.

Steve Coulson, Managing Director of COPTRZ, added: “This is fantastic news for the inspection industry, as well as unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) pilots. The Elios 2 is safer, quicker and less complex to fly. This news will massively decrease the time taken for inspecting industrial assets and provides not only the most enhanced data available on the market but is also the safest way for inspections to operate.”
