Webinar on 4D X-ray CT and understanding progressive damage growth of composites
15/04/2021
In the latest of a series of webinars to be hosted by North Star Imaging, Dr Waruna Seneviratne, Senior Research Scientist (Composites & Structures) at Wichita State University’s National Institute for Aviation Research, will discuss the progressive damage growth of several carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites that has strategic importance to the aerospace industry and was studied for various lay-up sequences, stress ratios and failure modes.A database of detailed three-dimensional X-ray computed tomography (XCT) data over the fatigue lifetime, referred to as 4D XCT, was developed so that such information can be used for a comprehensive understanding of failure progression and for validating high-fidelity models and life prediction tools.
Such high-fidelity inspection data can be used for validating progressive damage growth predictions using both discrete damage modelling and continuum damage modelling techniques.
The 'NSI NDT Talk – 4D XCT – Progressive Damage Growth of Composites' will take place on 28 April 2021, beginning at 09.00 Central Time (15.00 BST).
