Backscatter X-ray technology available from Euroteck Systems

Euroteck Systems UK has recently been appointed as the UK and European distributor for Nucsafe Scatter X-Ray Imaging (SXI) systems.Nucsafe/SXI specialises in providing high-fidelity images for the NDT and security markets. Unlike traditional transmission X-ray imaging, which requires access to both sides of the specimen, backscatter X-ray imaging, sometimes known as Compton scattering, allows for single-sided X-ray imaging. This allows for a variety of applications where proper imaging was not previously possible.
Backscatter X-ray systems are uniquely engineered to identify sub-millimetre cracks and flaws within multi-layer materials, thus outperforming competitors in image quality and resolution.
Applications of the backscatter system include flaw detection, foreign objects and debris (FOD) inspection, material inspection and security applications in composite materials and aluminium-layered structures. The resolution of the SXI equipment outperforms that of traditional thermography or ultrasonic squirter systems.
Ian Winstanley, Sales Director at Euroteck Systems, said: “Having recently spent a week at the Nucsafe facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USA, undergoing SXI product training, I am very excited about what backscatter radiography can offer our aerospace customers. I had plenty of opportunity to use the technology on a number of different materials, notably glass fibre-reinforced plastic (GFRP), carbon fibre composites, water ingress in honeycomb structures, FOD and aluminium structures. One significant advantage of SXI is that the equipment does not need to be located in an X-ray exposure bay. Due to the highly collimated X-ray beam, the safe exclusion zone is a matter of a few metres, so the SXI equipment can be safely located on the shop floor. This can potentially save a customer the need to build a dedicated X-ray bay, costing more than £250,000 for a large
