Element has announced the acquisition of NDT Limited, one of the UK’s leading materials testing companies, significantly strengthening its non-destructive testing (NDT) services in Europe.

NDT Limited, headquartered in Sheffield, UK, is a UKAS- and Nadcap-accredited laboratory that offers a comprehensive range of NDT, mechanical testing and metallurgical testing services, including ultrasonic immersion, ultrasonic contact, dye penetrant, magnetic particle, radiographic and eddy current inspection.

Tim Elwell, Managing Director, NDT Limited, commented: ‘’We are very excited to partner with Element and complement their position as a leading provider for materials testing. Since 1986, NDT Limited has held a strong reputation and market position and, through Element’s engaged experts and innovation in advance testing solutions, the acquisition is an ideal fit in terms of further enhancing our capabilities to our customers.’’

Charles Noall, President and Chief Executive Officer, Element, said: ‘’We are delighted to enter this agreement with NDT Limited, our first laboratory that specialises in immersion ultrasonic testing (IUT) in Europe. In the last few years, we have invested heavily in building our aerospace testing presence in Europe, including the relocation of our Sheffield laboratory to a new state-of-the-art facility and the acquisitions of Exova, TEAMS in Seville, Spain, and the materials testing laboratories of DNV GL in Germany.

“Currently, there is a very high demand from aerospace primes and the medical device sector to provide expanded capacity for IUT and, with this investment, we are now able to provide our customers with a single service provider for both materials testing and non-destructive testing services.’’

Rick Sluiters, EVP Aerospace, Element, commented: ‘’We acquired this business to provide our European aero engine customers and suppliers with a model of services similar to that which we already provide to our customers in the USA. With the recent acquisition of Exova, we now have a dedicated IUT laboratory in Houston, Texas, which, alongside our facility in Rancho Dominguez, California, one of the largest NDT facilities in the country, provides our customers with NDT services that complement their destructive testing needs.’’

Element is a world-leading provider of aerospace testing services, with 43 laboratories located in the Americas and Europe providing a comprehensive range of materials testing, product qualification testing and calibration services for the industry. With 29 Nadcap-accredited laboratories, more than any independent materials testing company in the world, services include metallographic evaluations, fatigue and fracture toughness testing, creep and stress rupture testing, NDT, electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing and hydraulics and pneumatics.
