RTA Rail Agency’s condition monitoring system

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) Rail Agency has rolled out a remote asset condition monitoring system that uses a special algorithm to secure data on the condition of railway switches, cutting down the need for human interference.

According to RTA, the system can predict potential faults in switches before they develop and helps in taking proactive measures to avoid any major fault that might disrupt the services of the Dubai Metro.

Speaking about the system, Mohammed Al Amiri, Director of Maintenance at RTA’s Rail Agency, said: “The implementation of the remote asset condition monitoring system is a landmark development in shifting from conventional management methods to a highly sophisticated predictive maintenance method, based on the anticipation of faults before they occur.

“The system contributed to cutting railway faults drastically, which reflected in the performance of the Dubai Metro network and reducing the costs of the service outage.”

With the introduction of the remote asset condition monitoring system, costs can be reduced when compared to the spending incurred for the maintenance of the metro.

According to Al Amiri, it can also increase revenue and help to achieve high-performance indicators in operation and maintenance.

“The system will also support RTA’s efforts to transform Dubai into the smartest and happiest metro in the world,” the UAE’s state-held news agency, WAM, reported.
