Export successes bring Queen’s Award to USL

05/05/2015

Ultrasonic Sciences Ltd (USL) is celebrating being named as winner of a 2015 Queen’s Award for Enterprise, the UK’s highest accolade for business success.

USL received its award for Outstanding Achievement in International Trade, in recognition of a substantial increase in export sales for three consecutive years from 2011 to 2013, when exports increased from £2.6 million, to £4.2 million and then £4.7 million, representing almost 80% of total turnover in the final year. In this period, significant new orders were received from customers in China, India, Singapore and Japan, mainly from aerospace manufacturers and predominantly for composite inspection applications. Since 2013, the company’s geographic span has extended to other countries, including Sweden, Indonesia and Australia. At the same time, it continues to supply systems to customers in the UK and other European countries.

Sales Director, Chris Gartside, commented: “This USL success is based on offering customers complete ultrasonic inspection systems tailored to meet their specific requirements at competitive prices. The systems are technically advanced and are designed and manufactured entirely at our factories in Aldershot. The award is the result of the skill, dedication and hard work of our staff in making sure that the systems we produce consistently meet and exceed our customer needs.”

USL was established in 1987 and within a few years became a supplier to major blue-chip companies in the UK and Europe, operating in industries such as aerospace, metals manufacture, rail transport and other engineering disciplines. This has continued to the present day, with the increase in export sales becoming a major factor in the last 15 years. This latest award represents the culmination of USL’s efforts in the manufacture and supply of advanced ultrasonic non-destructive testing equipment.
