Altera Infrastructure contract award bolsters Bilfinger’s inspection growth strategy

10/05/2021

Leading operations, maintenance and asset integrity contractor Bilfinger Salamis UK has secured a three-year global support contract to provide offshore execution services, including inspection and enactment services, to Altera Infrastructure Production AS.

The multi-million-pound contract award comes on the back of a successful period of growth for Bilfinger’s inspection department, with the company on track to double its inspection revenue by 2023.

The new agreement sees Bilfinger extend its existing service delivery with Altera Infrastructure, providing a range of conventional and advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) services on assets operated by Altera in the UK.

“Securing this key contract with Altera Infrastructure further enhances our position as a leading provider of inspection services in north-west Europe,” said Dr David Hall, Operations Director at Bilfinger Salamis UK.

Bilfinger Salamis UK has extensive experience with Altera Infrastructure, having worked with the company since 2014, providing maintenance and environmental services on the Petrojarl I, Foinaven, Petrojarl Banff, Voyageur Spirit and Hummingbird Spirit assets. Services include surface preparation and coating application, insulation and cladding, fireproofing, scaffolding and access provision, vessel and tank cleaning, rope access and environmental services.

This award follows a significant five-year inspection and enactment contract with a major offshore operator in 2020 and the growth of Bilfinger Salamis UK’s onshore inspection delivery for a number of oil, gas and renewable energy operators in the UK and north-west Europe.

“Over the last two years, we’ve made significant investment in training, equipment and development of our services to be able to offer a holistic inspection delivery,” said David. “On the basis of these recent awards and the acceleration of our strategy, we will be recruiting a number of positions in the coming months to support this growth.”

Bilfinger Salamis UK is an established provider of conventional, advanced and specialist NDT services to the oil & gas, energy, petrochemical, renewables, nuclear and utilities sectors, covering onshore and offshore facilities.

The business, which has supported the energy industry for almost 50 years, employs over 1500 people from bases in Aberdeen, Groningen, Esbjerg and Great Yarmouth. It is part of international industrial services provider Bilfinger.
