High-temperature TOFD probes

30/05/2022

Ionix Advanced Technologies has launched a new range of high-temperature time-of-flight diffraction (TOFD) probes that are suitable for weld inspection and work continuously at elevated temperatures of up to 350°C without cooling.

The new HotSense TOFD probes provide high-temperature resilience in extreme environments, such as those within the petrochemical and energy industries, without the need for cooling, and are said to be ideal for pre-shutdown inspection and planning, weld root corrosion inspections and crack detection and monitoring.

Integrated wedges offer refracted beam angles of 50°, 60° and 70° in steel, determined at a surface temperature of 200°C, that minimise the impact of high temperatures and changes in temperature during inspections. The probes and wedges can be used continuously at high temperatures without the need for duty cycling or coolants. This reduces errors from baseline drift and removes the risk of burning out probes when cooling systems fail.

The new HotSense TOFD probes are compatible with commercially available high-temperature scanners from mainstream manufacturers.
