Lavender International NDT Consultancy Services celebrates 40 years

15/09/2016

Lavender International NDT Consultancy Services Ltd is a leading provider of non-destructive testing (NDT) training, examinations and Level 3 consultancy services, and 2016 marks its 40th anniversary.

The business started in 1976 at the home of Jack (1924-2003) and Joyce Lavender in Crosspool, Sheffield, with their son Dave Lavender being a major influence in the birth of the business. Jack himself became one of the first ASNT NDT Level 3s in 1977, a Member of the Institute of Physics, a Fellow of the Institute of Metallurgy and a Fellow of the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing. In 1991, he became a Fellow of the American Society for NDT and later, in 1997, an Honorary Fellow of BINDT. Since this date, Lavender International has evolved into a BINDT-Approved Training Organisation and an Authorised Qualifying Body under BINDT’s PCN operator certification scheme. The company is also a Quality Assured Provider for the National Skills Academy for Nuclear and more recently achieved Investors in People – Gold status. The company has expanded globally and has training centres in the UK (Penistone and the Advanced Manufacturing Park, Sheffield), USA (Houston, Texas) and Australia (Perth, Western Australia).

Lavender International has supported BINDT over most of these 40 years, including Steve Lavender having the honour of being president of the Institute during 2010 and 2011 and becoming an Honorary Fellow in 2014. He has also been awarded an MBE. Many of Lavender’s technical staff are members of the Institute and have supported the committees in a variety of roles, including Gary Elliott (CMC, MQ&E, the Training and Examination Group, Yorkshire Branch Committees and the Practitioner Group), Ian Griffin (WI Working Group) and Andy Young (Aerospace Group), to name just a few.

As a Corporate Member, Lavender has been an ever-present exhibitor at most BINDT events, including its MTQ programme, Annual Conference table-top exhibitions, Aerospace Events, Yorkshire Branch events and so on.

Lavender International will be exhibiting on stand 37 at the 55th Annual British Conference of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT 2016), taking place 12-14 September 2016 in Nottingham, and at ASNT’s 75th Anniversary Conference in Long Beach, California, 24-27 October 2016. The company will have information about its services and some fantastic 40th anniversary giveaways.
