Strong support for South West School of NDT seminars

14/08/2009

Since the beginning of the year The South West School of NDT has being holding professional development seminars on emerging technologies. The complimentary seminars, aimed at the SWS's existing students and clients, are on subjects chosen for the interest they received in the NDT world. For 2009, the subjects are phased array and laser shearography and both subjects have been booked out weeks in advance.

The sessions, which contain a mixture of theory and practical demonstrations with some hands-on time, are aimed to deliver an overview of emerging technology to ensure attendees remain up-to-date with the latest developments in NDT.

The seminar on 12 June was on phased array. It was supported by GE Inspection Technologies, who provided additional equipment and hands-on expertise, and was delivered by Bob Williams, one of The SWS of NDT's Level 3 tutors. Bob, an experienced UT field operator, said: "The benefits of phased array are considerable, in the right hands. It's an amazing piece of kit. Like all high-end technologies, there is a lot to learn to use it, but it's worth it."

Colin Thomas, Director of Engineering Services at The South West School of NDT, told NDT News: "The one-day taster seminar was designed to give enough of an overview of phased array to allow NDT professionals to establish if the technique could be of benefit to their businesses. We have been delighted with the interest and attendance levels."

The South West School of NDT has two more seminars planned for later in the year; phased array on 13 October, and laser shearography on a date yet to be set. For details email michelle.clapham@minton.co.uk
