Waygate Technologies, a Baker Hughes business and a world leader in non-destructive testing (NDT) solutions for industrial inspection, has received Frost & Sullivan’s 2023 Company of the Year Award for innovative computed tomography (CT) solutions and its contribution to safely scale-up sustainable industries such as battery manufacturing for e-mobility.
With its 2023 Best Practice Awards, independent international research and consulting firm Frost & Sullivan lauded Baker Hughes’ Waygate Technologies’ leadership in industrial CT solutions that advance electric vehicle (EV) production. Frost & Sullivan highlighted that the company has the broadest CT solutions portfolio on the market that specifically caters to battery research and production, as well as state-of-the-art hardware and software features that increase automation.
A spokesperson for Frost & Sullivan stated: “Waygate Technologies, with its advanced industrial CT system for battery inspection, is well positioned to increase the safety and reliability of batteries, thus driving EV adoption. Additionally, with its patented automation offerings, artificial intelligence (AI)-based assisted defect recognition (ADR) features and innovative InspectionWorks platform, the company continues to demonstrate its ability to transform the future of battery manufacturing with a better yield and with reduced costs across the entire production flow.”
“We are delighted to be recognised by Frost & Sullivan for the role our Waygate Technologies solutions play in increasing throughput and productivity for the battery sector, while ensuring the safety and reliability of cell and module production and use. With our vast sector and technology expertise, we are confident that we can help industrial stakeholders of the energy transition overcome their current challenges and set the course to scale-up their business for sustainability,” said Ben Linke, Vice President Inspection, Baker Hughes.
Waygate Technologies is part of the inspection portfolio within Baker Hughes’ Industrial & Energy Technology business segment. Frost & Sullivan recognised Waygate Technologies for offering more than ten solutions that meet the specific requirements of battery inspection during research and production, both in-line and at-line. They combine outstanding hardware and software features to provide best-in-class high-resolution images with less noise, high accuracy and repeatability, while reducing inspection time significantly.
Market-leading automation features allow customers to run more samples of different sizes and materials or even run 24/7 production, resulting in increased flexibility, throughput and productivity. Moreover, the Waygate Technologies solutions portfolio provides a collaborative robot for some of its systems to further increase automation. Patented metrology solutions extend the offering to provide specified measurement accuracy in all directions, lengths and locations, with automated verification that is three times faster than manual verification.
In addition to its industrial CT solutions, the Waygate Technologies inspection data management platform InspectionWorks was recognised as a tool that propels Waygate Technologies ahead of the market. It allows customers to maximise insights gained through inspections by acquiring, analysing and acting on this data.
For the Company of the Year Award, Frost & Sullivan assesses the performance of companies against clearly defined criteria, including groundbreaking innovation and performance and customer focus. Based on independent interviews and secondary industry research, best practices are identified and participants’ performances are evaluated to determine the winner.
