BINDT welcomes visitors from Japan

14/12/2010

On 10 September 2010, a delegation of senior JSNDI representatives visited BINDT at its new home in the Newton Building to discuss matters of common interest. The delegation comprised:
  • Dr Norikazu Ooka, Head of the mission and Past President of JSNDI
  • Mr Kazutoshi Fujioka, Chairperson of the Certification Steering Committee of JSNDI and Past Vice President of JSNDI
  • Dr Yoshikazu Yokono, a member of the Visual Testing Committee and President of JSNDI
  • Mr Toshikazu Ishii, a Manager of the Secretariat of JSNDI
  • Mr Chigaku Takao, a staff member of the Secretariat of JSNDI.
As well as being a sister NDT society – both societies being strong members of the ICNDT – JSNDI is signatory to a memorandum of understanding with BINDT under which BINDT is able to issue NDT approvals in compliance with the European Pressure Equipment Directive (97/23/EC) to NDT personnel that have been examined and certificated by JSNDI. This arrangement, which has been in place for five years, enables Japanese industry seeking to export pressure equipment to the European Union to comply with section 3.1.3 of Schedule 2 to the Regulations.

At the conclusion of the Japanese delegation’s visit to the Newton Building, Matt Gallagher, BINDT CEO, presented Dr Yoshikazu Yokono with a plaque bearing the Institute’s coat of arms. After the visit, the delegation was taken to TWI Training and Examination Services, Abington, Cambridge, to see how a typical PCN test centre is operated.
