Largest automotive producer in Europe chooses Yxlon once again

08/12/2010

Volkswagen AG, Europe’s largest manufacturer of automobiles, is banking increasingly on computed tomography and has decided for the third time in favour of a CT system from Yxlon.

Following two Y.CT Modular computed tomograph systems that are being successfully deployed overseas, yet another system has now been commissioned to support development and production in Germany. The system is going to be used for the detailed inspection of engine parts in the Physical Laboratory at
the Volkswagen factory in Salzgitter.

The CT system tailored to match customer specifications is equipped with 450 kV, the FXE microfocus system, a line and a flat-panel detector.

A particularly high image quality is achieved due to the Yxlon line LDA. The large-area flat-panel detector provides for rapid scans and, with an output of 450 kV, even solid parts can be tomographed extraordinarily quickly. Extremely high resolutions are made a reality with the FXE microfocus system. In the process, TXI assures unusually high dose stability in order to attain optimum image quality.

The stable, hard-rock manipulator built into this system is measured via state-of-the-art laser technology. High-grade components and precise alignments provide for long-lasting accuracies and a high degree of reproduceability.

A broad spectrum of inspection items can be covered using Y.CT Modular. The CT system can be upgraded and easily adapted to new requirements as a result of its modular construction design. That makes Y.CT Modular an assured investment for the future.

In existence since 1969, the Volkswagen factory in Salzgitter manufactures around half of all engines within the corporate group. Roughly 164 different types of engines are produced here.
