Membership, Qualification & Education Committee (MQ&E): An Institute Committee that needs your help

14/12/2011

What does MQ&E do? Well, the answer is in the name: it manages membership applications, including overseeing Engineering Registration, it manages qualification processes, including the accreditation of BINDT-accredited training organisations, and it manages the Institute’s education initiatives. The full list of responsibilities is as follows:
  • Recommending standards to be adopted for admission to various grades of membership
  • Assessing applications for all full membership grades
  • Assessing applications for registration with the Engineering Council (UK)
  • Managing the engineer registration processes
  • Managing the accreditation of training bodies and education and training programmes
  • Sponsoring and/or advising on training programmes
  • Sponsoring and/or advising on competency tests
  • Liaison with such organisations as may be appropriate in all matters concerned with education, training, examination, certification and registration
  • Membership development
  • Liaison with Branches.
The voting members of MQ&E are corporate members of the Institute, which means that they have to be members at the graduate level or above. In addition, some of the members need to be registered with the Engineering Council at one of the three levels.

The work that the MQ&E committee is involved in is enjoyable and rewarding but most of all it is essential to the wellbeing of the Institute. The committee is populated by volunteer members who offer their services and support to carry out these essential services; the committee meets four times a year at the
Institute’s headquarters in Northampton.
