Foresight report sparks welcome debate into the future of UK manufacturing, says engineering institute
03/12/2013

The Foresight (2013) report ‘The Future of Manufacturing: A new era of opportunity and challenge for the UK’ assesses where the industry is today and how it might improve to retain its competitive edge up to 2050.
Cameron Sinclair, CEO of BINDT, said: “BINDT welcomes this report, which has prompted a valuable debate into the future of UK manufacturing. It challenges businesses to innovate and streamline practices, which will involve an array of suppliers and supporting sub-sectors that underpin this vibrant industry.”
Non-destructive testing (NDT) and condition monitoring (CM) are two engineering disciplines that have crucial roles to play in this success. These techniques add value to UK manufacturing by:
- Detecting flaws early, enabling repairs to be carried out before more costly damage occurs;
- Reassuring stakeholders that UK product reliability remains paramount;
- Avoiding dangerous failures that could have far-reaching corporate, health & safety and environmental implications.
“The Foresight report is a vehicle for positive change, but long-term success will depend on ongoing dialogue between industry representatives. BINDT welcomes the opportunity to participate in this important debate.”
