Argyll Ruane recently supported the first UK-China Corrosion Summit, held 3 to 4 September 2025 in Manchester, UK, as Exclusive Platinum Sponsor.

Organised by the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr) and the Chinese Society for Corrosion and Protection (CSCP), the summit was an important milestone in bringing together expertise from both countries to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on corrosion management within the UK-China energy industry, creating a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, innovation and collaboration.

Highlights included keynote talks on the role of corrosion big data and AI in materials and corrosion engineering, alongside technical sessions on AI-driven inspection, predictive maintenance, machine learning applications and advanced modelling for corrosion risk management. There were also open forums designed to encourage knowledge-sharing and strengthen links between UK and Chinese corrosion communities.

The delegation from China enjoyed a guided tour of Argyll Ruane’s facilities

On 4 September, Argyll Ruane had the pleasure of hosting the Chinese delegation at its Sheffield site.

Delegates took part in a tailored programme designed to give them a direct insight into the company’s expertise and facilities, introducing delegates to its services and giving them an insight into its approach towards training delivery.

The visit included an overview of the training, consultancy and examination services and guided tours of its coating inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT) classrooms and its examination areas. Delegates also took part in live demonstrations and interactive sessions, giving them first-hand experience of how the coatings inspection and NDT courses are structured and delivered. Delegates also had the opportunity for direct conversations with trainers about real-world applications and career opportunities, demonstrations of inspection methods using a range of samples and industry-standard equipment and learnt how academic knowledge translates into industrial inspection and corrosion management.

“The summit was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our training, examination and consultancy expertise and the value of international collaboration in advancing corrosion science. Delegates responded extremely positively, appreciating the opportunity to engage with our trainers, see demonstrations and learn more about our coatings inspection and NDT training courses. Events such as this help us connect research with real-world practice and continue raising industry standards,” said Kristian Hampson, Group Technical Manager & Level 3 Consultant at Argyll Ruane.
