Basra oil & gas conference & exhibition in Iraq is a success for GE

18/01/2012

The Inspection Technologies business of GE Measurement & Control Solutions successfully shared  GE’s oil & gas stand during the Oil & Gas Conference & Exhibition, held in Basra, Iraq, from 25 to 28 November 2011. The exhibition featured 475 exhibitors from 30 countries.

“This was a difficult trip because of the security and nature of Basra these days, but it
was useful and fruitful at the same time,“ said Thaer Al khouri, GE Oil & Gas Key Account Manager – Middle East & North Africa. This was the first time that GE’s Inspection Technologies business had exhibited in Basra and it offered a fantastic opportunity to meet Iraqi customers face to face and to discuss with them the different challenges they are facing daily in plants which are often more than 40 years old.”

Of particular interest were GE’s Rightrax, Phasor DM, CR and DR, and XL G3 solutions. As more than 90% of NDT in Iraq is still carried out using conventional technology and equipment, the opportunity to see phased array, TOFD and computerised radiography proved extremely interesting.

Particular problems faced by the NDT industry in Iraq include:
  • Importing of isotopes
  • Rarity of UT experts
  • Need for simple and high probability of detection equipment
  • Difficulty in understanding English software.
Many operators saw USM Vision as an excellent solution to these problems.
