In response to increasing industry demand for its services, TWI Technology Centre (Wales), the Wales regional office of TWI Ltd, has recently moved to larger purpose-built premises in Port Talbot. The expanded Technology Centre forms part of the new multi-million pound research and development village in the Harbourside district, which has opened up the old docks area and now links directly with the M4.

TWI Technology Centre (Wales) specialises in the applied research, development and application of state-of-the-art non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, providing real world solutions to inspection challenges for its industrial members across a broad range of industries.

The centre has been located in Port Talbot for nine years, where it underpins Welsh industry with the structural integrity support required by the growing aerospace, petrochemical, road and rail transport, energy and healthcare sectors. TWI Technology Centre (Wales) helps the region to ensure the safety, reliability and cost-effectiveness of its products.

The centre’s Regional Manager, Philip Wallace, said: ”We are thrilled with our new location. The new building gives us around 1500 square metres of space in which to accommodate a growing staff and a much larger NDT kit. We have introduced new digital radiography bays, a laser laboratory and a twin robot work cell for automated inspection, including the application of UT and phased array UT of large complex geometries. Our customers can visit us in a wonderfully light and spacious building with multiple laboratories for project work, together with meeting and training rooms – exciting times lie ahead.”
