Defendr brings new depth of data and responsiveness to condition monitoring
19/01/2026
Coventry-based NDE Clarke Pitchline has announced a new turnkey condition monitoring offering for rotating plant equipment based on the unique application of innovative technologies coupled with deep experience in failure mode analysis and machine understanding.NDE’s Defendr suite provides real-time remote monitoring of asset health with data visible to both NDE’s dedicated, responsive engineering services team and the customer, enabling rapid recommendations and decisions to be made on required action and then implemented by NDE or the customer themselves.
Unlike some other offerings based on off-the-shelf condition monitoring equipment, Defendr has been developed to deliver a greater depth of data, particularly in areas such as vibration spectrum trending and vibration waterfall plotting. Precise machine composition in the software allows a digital twin to be created and therefore a more representative profile to be established. This enables more detailed analysis and thus more effective planning of maintenance and preventative measures.
Through an easy-to-understand online dashboard, the Defendr software suite provides 24/7/365 monitoring of asset health, encompassing areas such as heat and vibration, while identifying issues such as misalignment, component imbalance and structural looseness. Wear patterns for components such as gears and bearings are analysed in detail, with predictions then made, allowing maintenance to be scheduled at a convenient moment.

| The Defendr suite is suitable for virtually any facility using rotating equipment |
Defendr is suitable for virtually any facility using rotating equipment and is already seeing service in sectors including aerospace, steel, paper and defence. It can be easily configured towards equipment that is used intermittently and which may have irregular and unpredictable duty cycles.
Equipment supplied as part of the Defendr package, such as sensors and monitors, can be Atmosphères Explosibles (ATEX) certified for zone 2/22, down to zone 0/20.
Chris Edgington, Director at NDE Clarke Pitchline, explained: “Many condition monitoring systems are very good at providing large amounts of data but do not always have the capability to convert this into meaningful information that can inform the required action when it comes to maintenance and repair. Meanwhile, many of the companies who sell these products do not always have the application and expert machine knowledge to recommend and implement the solutions needed.
“Defendr has been designed to bridge this gap and offer a complete, flexible and responsive solution. It represents a major step forward from traditional condition monitoring systems, which tend to operate an automated alarm if a problem is identified. Moving away from this ‘go/no go’ way of working, Defendr’s success is based on its ability to provide overall situational awareness based on in-depth interpretation of the data.
“With Defendr, data is rapidly analysed by our specialist team, whose five decades of experience in failure mode analysis mean they have the skills to not only recommend the best course of action, but then implement it rapidly and effectively to minimise disruption and maximise operational effectiveness for the customer.
“We can not only recommend and install the most suitable replacement parts but design and manufacture a suitable alternative ourselves if needed.”
