Complex geometry inspection system installed by Midas

17/07/2008

Midas-NDT has installed a complex geometry inspection system at Aircelle Ltd in Burnley, England. The system is for the inspection of composite components and consists of a 6500 mm × 4000 mm × 1850 mm (scanning dimensions) jet probe system under full multi-axis computer control of all ten axes of movement.

The system, designed for the precision inspection of double curved panels for the Airbus A380 aircraft, will utilise the latest Midas-NDT ultrasonic instrumentation. Data will be captured and evaluated in the latest Midas-NDT Zeus v3 data acquisition and evaluation package.

The system has two independent towers each containing five axes of movement (length, width, height, vertical angle and horizontal angle). This combination of ten movement axes allows the system software to follow all necessary contours to achieve the complete inspection of double curved aerospace components.

Midas-NDT is already well advanced in the manufacture of a second similar system, which will be delivered to an aerospace customer in Norway later this year.
