Mike Reilly has announced that he has acquired Baugh & Weedon Ltd, a manufacturer of MPI and dye penetrant inspection equipment and systems, UT and eddy current instruments and a provider of on-site calibration services, from Minton, Treharne & Davies Ltd (MTD).

Baugh & Weedon Ltd, a privately-held company established in 1967 and based in Hereford, UK, is a leading UK designer and manufacturer of MPI benches, eddy current sorting bridges, ultrasonic thickness gauges and MT, UT and ET accessories. The company has a long history of supplying the NDT industry with high-quality products and services.

Colin Thomas, Managing Director of Minton, Treharne & Davies, stated: “It was a priority for us to secure a solid future for Baugh & Weedon, both in terms of its products and the very experienced and loyal workforce. There is no doubt that the key to achieving this aim was to locate a buyer with a complementary NDT business and a proven track record of business success in the NDT sector. Mike Reilly simply ticks all the boxes.

“His business pedigree is openly acknowledged in the NDT community worldwide and the growth and success of ETher NDE in a relatively short period of time is testimony to the experience and drive he brings to the delivery of NDT products into the marketplace.

“The MTD group will continue to enjoy a close trading relationship with Baugh & Weedon and is confident of its successful future under Mike’s ownership and direction.”

Mike Reilly will continue to operate Baugh & Weedon Ltd from its head office and factory in Hereford. All current staff will remain in their roles, with John Bone remaining in charge of day-to-day business. Mike commented: “Having worked extensively with Baugh & Weedon during the 1990s, I am delighted to revive some of those working relationships in my new role as the owner of the business. The Baugh & Weedon team is a tremendously knowledgeable and experienced group of people. I am looking forward to increasing R&D investment, boosting export sales through a strengthened global distribution network and implementing a number of strategic third-party business partnerships in order to take the business to the next level.”

Mike Reilly is the current Executive Chairman of ETher NDE, a UK-based manufacturer of eddy current NDT equipment and accessories. ETher NDE was founded on 1 January 2010 and is growing quickly, currently employing 12 members of staff. Previous to this, Mike was Group Managing Director of Sonatest plc from 1989 to 2009, during which time the group grew from a $2m to a $25m business.
