Instrumentation specialist Ashtead Technology has announced the addition of the advanced Olympus I-Speed 3 high-speed video (HSV) camera to its comprehensive fleet of remote visual inspection (RVI) equipment.

Ideal for numerous RVI applications in manufacturing, aerospace, film and TV production, R&D and ballistics, along with any other project that requires fast-moving activities to be slowed down for in-depth visual inspection, the versatile high-definition I-Speed 3 is now available to hire for the first time from Ashtead.

Advanced features include extreme low-light sensitivity, 1280 x 1024 colour resolution, the capability of recording up to an astonishing 150,000 frames per second, allowing the user to keep moving targets in frame longer, as well as full control by the controller display unit or PC/laptop via Ethernet. The camera is supplied with a selection of lenses, including a 24 mm – 70 mm zoom, 50 mm and 28 mm fixed focal lenses and an 8 GB Compact Flash Card.

An earlier generation I-Speed was previously hired from Ashtead by the BBC to help shoot high-speed footage of insects in the Brazilian rainforests for the acclaimed series Life In The Undergrowth. The new I-Speed will now offer TV and film production crews unrivalled technology, enabling them to capture even more highly detailed and impressive footage for future documentaries.

Alan Hasson, Ashtead's General Manager, said: "This is the first time the I-Speed 3 high-speed video camera, the most advanced HSV on the market, has been available for hire. The I-Speed 3 is suitable
for a wide range of applications and arrives fully calibrated, charged and ready to use. Renting also provides access to the latest technology without the burden of heavy capital expenditure."
