ACFM inspection system

Eddyfi Technologies has recently launched the new TSC U41™ subsea inspection solution. For the last 30 years, alternating current field measurement (ACFM®) technology has been used globally for the detection and sizing of subsea surface-breaking cracks. Recognised and approved by many certification bodies, including DNV, ABS and Lloyd’s Register, the technique has been used successfully in place of traditional non-computerised and more user-dependent methods, such as magnetic particle inspection (MPI). ACFM technology has been successfully deployed for the inspection of structural node welds on jackets, caisson inspection, pipeline damage, spudcans and welded plate structures.Building on the excellent reputation of the previous model, the TSC U41 brings 14 times the data resolution, performs data acquisition 10 times faster and has the ability to inspect coatings twice as thick as was possible before. These benefits promise to deliver increased revenue and a quick return on investment for customers.
Dr Michael Smith, Technical Director of TSC, commented: “The system has been completely redesigned with new electronics and delivers the highest resolution for ACFM data the industry has seen. New features include the ability to connect three probes simultaneously, which avoids frequent returns to the surface, and a diver array probe, which reduces the number of scans and allows for faster recognition and characterisation of defects. Probe configuration files are now stored on the probe itself instead of on a remote PC, ensuring that the correct set-up is used. The umbilical reel is dramatically reduced in size, weighing one third less and taking up one third less space.’’
