Voliro has released the Voliro T Version 5, with a hardware and software upgrade that is said to elevate aerial inspections to a new standard. After over five years of intensive development and collaboration with experts in the non-destructive testing (NDT) industry, the company is now introducing a more robust, reliable and advanced version.
The introduction of a 5G module enables real-time data transfer to and from the Voliro Cloud. This allows health monitoring, proactive maintenance and effortless software upgrades to be performed, making inspection data management more efficient. For industries reliant on fast, accurate data, especially in areas such as wind farms, offshore rigs or remote industrial sites, this upgrade is essential for boosting proactive maintenance, productivity and flexibility in inspections.
With real-time health monitoring, potential issues can be detected and addressed before they escalate, minimising costly downtime and preventing equipment abnormalities.
As part of the ongoing development of the Voliro T Version 5, operators will gain the ability to make immediate decisions based on live data, reducing delays in response time and improving the overall operational workflow.
With further advancements, the Voliro T Version 5 will enable software upgrades and mission-critical adjustments from anywhere, supporting fully remote operations and reducing the need for on-site personnel.
The flight controller now receives data from the electronic speed controllers (ESCs) to provide early detection of potential motor abnormalities. This added layer of safety ensures that pilot operators can pre-emptively address problems before they arise, reducing downtime and improving operational efficiency.
With a triple-redundant, thermally controlled inertial measurement unit (IMU) and an advanced vibration isolation design, the new flight controller ensures superior processing power for precision and flight stability, even in Global Positioning System (GPS)-denied environments, high-altitude zones and strong winds. Combined with a new Ethernet interface, this upgrade significantly improves data transmission speed, giving operators more control and enabling seamless workflows during challenging inspections.
The improved tail motor and propeller further boost performance by increasing wind resistance and responsiveness, providing greater precision during demanding manoeuvres. Enhanced controller tuning enables more direct handling of operator inputs. It also improves the control of stability in turbulent situations, increasing the overall wind performance.
The complete overhaul features newly designed printed circuit boards (PCBs), enhanced antennas and optimised
antenna set-ups. These enhancements greatly boost system reliability and performance, especially for the first-person view (FPV) cameras, reducing the risk of video stream interruptions.
Higher-quality materials have been selected, improving durability and steadiness to ensure that the Voliro T is not only better at its job at height but also able to withstand the harsh conditions it often faces, whether it is inspecting corroded materials, high-temperature infrastructure or operations in strong wind and high-altitude environments.
In addition to its enhanced internal components, the new Voliro T Version 5 offers longer flight times and better flight dynamics, due to the overall design being 250 g lighter, and has an improved locking mechanism for easier assembly and disassembly.
