CAN chooses M-Skip
09/11/2009
ESR Technology, one of the industry's leading engineering, safety and risk management consultancies, has announced that it has won a contract to license M-Skip to integrity and inspection management contractor CAN.CAN is a leading provider of engineering, inspection and maintenance services to the energy industry worldwide and the decision to purchase M-Skip strengthens CAN's existing range of specialist NDT services and capabilities for both on and offshore applications.
"The addition of M-Skip to CAN's inventory will allow our clients increased inspection coverage and therefore confidence in the reliability and availability of their assets," said Dave Pirie, CAN's Senior Specialist NDT Engineer. "M-Skip enables CAN to non-destructively examine otherwise inaccessible areas of plant and components."
The M-Skip technique allows the corrosion levels of pipes, risers and vessels in oil and gas, chemical and process facilities to be assessed without the need to move obstructions such as supports, clamps and saddles, which can prove costly and time consuming.
M-Skip was initially developed as a new variant of the time-of-flight-diffraction (TOFD) method within the HOIS joint industry project for improved NDT in the oil and gas industry. HOIS, which is managed by ESR Technology, has a membership which includes many of the world's largest oil and gas multinationals, as well as leading NDT inspection service and equipment vendors.
