BINDT gains Ofqual recognition

The British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) has received authorisation from the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) to provide end-point assessments (EPAs) for non-destructive testing (NDT) apprenticeships. The authorisation permits BINDT to provide EPAs in the Level 2: NDT Operator (ST0358) and Level 6: NDT Engineer (degree) (ST0369) apprenticeships. Authorisation to conduct EPAs for the Level 3: NDT Engineering Technician (ST0288) apprenticeship is expected very soon.

BINDT is a regulated awarding organisation, joining a community of around 240 organisations that share a common goal of ensuring high-quality qualifications that command public confidence. Recognition by Ofqual is a mark of quality: it shows that BINDT is able to meet Ofqual rules and is able to combine expertise in assessment with effective operational delivery. In turn, this provides assurance that the learners who have taken the regulated qualifications have the required level of knowledge and skills in the relevant subject area.

BINDT has provided the framework for a very successful series of apprenticeship schemes. These not only help to solve the skills shortage and improve the age profile issue within the NDT industry, but also produce more members and registrants.
BINDT offers a comprehensive apprenticeship pathway for those at all levels and stages within their NDT careers. There are three NDT apprenticeship programmes in place: the NDT Operator NDT Engineering Technician and NDT Engineer apprenticeships, which are all up and running with apprentices working on them. 

The apprenticeship EPA is the final step in the process, which effectively determines whether the apprentice has passed or failed the programme.

BINDT has developed a low-cost apprenticeship EPA package that delivers maximum benefit at minimum cost to employers and apprentices. All apprenticeship employers need to do is ask their Lead Provider to select BINDT from the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) database to carry out their EPA, notify BINDT and leave the rest to us.
