Pepperl+Fuchs isolated barrier for vibration monitoring

17/11/2025

Pepperl+Fuchs has stated that, with its KCD2-VR4-Ex1 intrinsically safe barrier, predictive maintenance in hazardous areas is now simpler and more efficient than ever. This innovative voltage repeater enables the reliable transmission of high-frequency signals up to 20 kHz to control safety and monitoring systems directly from the hazardous area.

The company claims that it is the only module on the market that allows simplified sensor power supply configuration via front-accessible dual in-line package (DIP) switches. Whether two-wire, three-wire or AC sensors without external power supply, this versatile module supports all common vibration, acceleration and displacement sensors, as well as magnetic pick-ups and seismic sensors.

The smart isolated barrier ensures seamless signal transmission without the need for complex workarounds such as Zener barriers or special grounding concepts.

The company claims that the benefits include:

  • Higher availability, less downtime and reduced costs through precise and reliable transmission of vibration data.
  • Smart system design, enabling compatibility with different sensor types for a significantly wider range of applications.
  • Time and cost savings and reduced complexity due to voltage/current field supply for the use of AC sensors without a separate power supply.
  • New applications through unlimited use in an extremely wide temperature range (–40°C to +70°C), with no need for additional cooling or minimum spacing.
  • Slim design, with a 12 mm housing width for reduced space requirements.
  • SIL 2 rating (SC3) for the highest safety standards.
  • Quick and easy configuration via a DIP switch on the front panel.
